I have two problems with the new version that supports encodings, which basically makes this program useless to me:

1. Conversion always fails on "Update Itunes encoder parameter settings" giving this error message: "Updated encoder settings does not match requested encoder settings"

2. Fine, I'll convert them in Itunes myself and use Chapter and Verse for merging. So conversion is done in Itunes with no problems. But when I add the files I get an error message stating that the files are not encoded in the same way "Files must be AAC encoded with the same settings to be added to a project.". So I need to re-encode them which leads to step 1...

An endless failing loop...

Matt

Can you please provide some basic information...

1)  What version of Chapter and Verse? If it's not version 1.4.4.0 then update.
2)  What version of iTunes are you using?
3)  What does the Audio Encoding Error Summary say?
     a) What is the the "Encoding of the Files Already Selected" say? (upper highlighted area)
     b) What does the "encoding error" say? (lower area)

4) Since you tried manually converting the files and it didn't work, what were the settings you used for conversion?

1 & 2) Yes, I'm running 1.4.4.0 and Itunes 9.0.3.15
3) See screenshot
4) In Itunes I used the setting "High quality (128 kbit/s)"

Matt,

If you look at the error summary, you will see that some of the files have a sample rate of 44.1 khz and the rest have a sample rate of 48.0 Khz
Chapter and Verse cannot combine files that have been encoded with different sample rates.

You might ask... How could this happen, since I encoded them manually using the same settings in iTunes before bringing them into C&V?

There are drawbacks to selecting some encoding settings within iTunes when you want to combine files in C&V.  iTunes decides what sample rate IT WANTS TO USE when you specify "High quality (128 kbit/s)", "iTunes Plus" and custom settings with an "auto" sample" rate.  When iTunes automatically decides the sample rate, it looks at the file it is starting with and may choose different sample rates.  Selecting these settings and encoding files with different formats or encoding, can result in AAC/M4A files with different sample rates. The same type of issue can happen if you have a mix of stereo and mono files and select the "auto" setting for channels.

C&V 1.4.4.0 was tested with iTunes version 9.2.   All 4,800+ encoder setting combination's were tested to ensure that iTunes would accept the combination and encode accordingly. Based on this testing, invalid encoder settings (the ones that didn't work in iTunes) are not allowed in C&V.  Some combination's can be set through C&V that iTunes does not allow through it's user interface.  For example, iTunes version 9.2 will not allow you to select a sample rate of 48.0 khz within the iTunes user interface, but it could be done using C&V.

The "Updated encoder settings does not match requested encoder settings" error occurs when C&V requests an encoder setting combination and iTunes rejects it.  My guess is that iTunes Version 9.3 may have modified what it allows for encoder parameters.  I'm away from my development system right now, but I will investigate if Apple has restricted iTunes version 9.3 verses what it allows in version 9.2

If the issue is not with iTunes version 9.3, it may possibly have to do with the fact that you are using a different Regional Setting in windows.  I have only tested C&V on systems using the English (US) settings.  Possibly the period/comma difference in different regional number formats may be impacting things (again I would need to test).

In the mean time, for your files it looks like you will need to force the encoding you want in iTunes by specifying Custom settings rather than using the "High quality (128 kbit/s)" preset prior to importing into C&V.

Thanks, I converted them using the custom setting in Itunes and now I could add them in Chapter and Verse without any problems.

I am having a similar problem as given.

I have tried converting to aac using iTunes and using iTunes through C&V. .

I then run create aac version on my mp3 files and when I try to bring the files into C&V I get an error.

The 1 files listed below are not AAC encoded.
Files must be AAC encoded to be added to a project.

Default AAC Encoding Settings:  iTunes Plus (256 kbps)
Output Directory For Converted Files:  Same Directory As Input File

Do you want to convert these files and add them to the list?

4) Since you tried manually converting the files and it didn't work, what were the settings you used for conversion?

I have customized the default settings to 256kbps, 44.100 kHz and Stereo. I turned off Use Variable... , Use high... Optimize for....
